Anyone and I mean ANYONE, who has an idea of who I am and what I represent will tell you off the bat that I have never, and never will be, the outdoorsy camping type. However, this does not mean that I do not occasionally accompany my close friends on camping adventures once in a while (but even this is a recent thing for me).
For as long as I can remember, camping activities spelt out bugs (and bug spray), uncomfortable, sleepless nights, and lastly, groggy, unhappy mornings since I couldn’t access a cup of java that did not taste like the very ground I spent my entire night on!
However, this all changed when I discovered the Stanley Adventure 6-Cup (click here to check out its full review) and the Farberware Classic Stainless Steel Yosemite 8-Cup Coffee Percolator (click here to check out its full review).
Both these unit’s proved to be quite useful during such outdoor excursions and definitely eliminated the unhappy, groggy mornings I had to endure during these trips.
Having used both of these units outdoors, I thought that writing up an in-depth review of both units, paying particular attention to their usefulness as camping coffee percolator, would be of tremendous value to you (my coffee loving outdoorsy buddies)!
Without further delay, here’s how both units faired!
Farberware Yosemite 8-Cup vs. Stanley Adventure 6-Cup: Which is the Best Camping Coffee Percolator?
Contents
Before I get into the nitty gritty details relating to both these camping coffee percolators, I must begin by mentioning a few noteworthy facts. First, although all camping coffee percolators are designed to brew coffee in the great outdoors, they are typically not idiot-proof or otherwise user-friendly.
By this I mean that you WILL HAVE TO keep adjusting the campfire’s heat to make sure that the flames do not lick the sides of the unit (a situation which ruins the aesthetic appeal of the entire unit), and keep eyeballing the unit during the entire percolating process so as to make sure that the unit does not boil over and to also gauge the strength of the brew made by colour.
That being said, I am sure you are ready to read and digest the comparison-based information related to both camping coffee percolators.
Farberware Classic Stainless Steel Yosemite 8-Cup Coffee Percolator Quick Review
One of the features of the Farberware Yosemite 8-Cup is that it is made out of heavy gauge stainless steel (and this includes the unit’s permanent filter basket!). Stainless steel is a great construction material since it is super inert and does not react to most liquids/ chemicals.
This is very beneficial to any coffee lover as this non-reactive quality of stainless steel makes sure that the brewing water/ coffee does not absorb any undesirable tastes or odours (meaning the brew your unit will produce brew will be perfectly awesome, that is, fresh, rich, and flavourful!)
Also, the fact that the filter basket is also constructed from stainless steel (and is permanent) means that you won’t have to deal with the messy paper filters that are so well known for being a cause of environmental aesthetic degradation (which is a big no-no in camping environments, of course). It is of noteworthy importance to mention that paper filters have been associated with altering a brews taste (and not for the better!).
In addition to its sturdy, durable construction, the last most important feature to mention about this camping coffee percolator is that the unit’s measurement indicator markings are pretty clear and visible to the naked eye. This is due to the fact that the fill lines (measurement indicators) are actually ingrained into the unit’s sides to make the measuring process very simple.
The Stanley Adventure 6-Cup Percolator, Stainless Steel, 1 Litre Quick Review
Just like the Farberware Yosemite 8-Cup, the Stanley Adventure 6-Cup is entirely made out of robust, stainless steel. Considering the numerous benefits of stainless steel as a unit construction material, this nifty camping coffee percolator can withstand almost all outdoor elements including rain, dust, and mud.
In fact, most of the features mentioned in the Farberware Yosemite 8-Cup’s quick review apply to the Stanley Adventure, so I really don’t see the point in repeating them. So, which unit is best and which one should you pick if they both have the same features?
Well, the answer to this question is pretty simple if you take a closer look at their rarely mentioned “camp-ability” features.
Camp-ability Feature Comparison
With reference to the Stanley Adventure 6-Cup, the unit is very easy to handle when hot because its purchase includes a silicone grip that prevents one from scalding themselves. In terms of weight, the Stanley Adventure 6-Cup weighs only 1.35 pounds which means that it is easy to carry along on your camping adventures (I think is particularly beneficial for most campers considering that most camping gear loads tend to be quite heavy!). Lastly, the unit is capable of brewing a whole litre of fresh coffee (which in my humble opinion is more than enough for a sizable camping party).
Let’s take a look at the Farberware Yosemite 8-Cup.
Obviously, and as its name suggests, this unit is capable of brewing 8 cups of java (an amount which is considerably more than that the Stanley Adventure can brew). However, it weighs more than the Stanley Adventure (2.2 pounds) and may be a cumbersome addition to one’s camping gear. Also, the unit’s handle is MADE OUT OF PLASTIC! Sure, it is a stay-cool type of handle and will not get too hot to touch BUT I hardly think that it can withstand any roaring campfire flames!
Final Verdict
Considering these minor yet very important camp-ability features, my final pick would be the Stanley Adventure 6-Cup! First, the handle really campfire friendly and you can brew without the anxiety of constantly worrying that the handle will melt away when placed over a campfire. Also, the unit’s brewing capacity (although shadowed by that of the Farberware Yosemite 8-Cup) is quite sufficient for normal sized camping groups.
