I obviously know that home-brewed coffee provides numerous health benefits. With this in mind, you can only imagine how upset I was when I came across a negatively written coffee related article. Seriously, folks, it shocked my coffee-loving brain into oblivion!
According to the article’s author (a man I am sure is a super coffee-hater!), coffee was toxic, it could kill you, make you gain weight, cause you to suffer from insomnia and restlessness, and lastly, increased the instances of bedwetting for children aged 5-7!
I was particularly dumbfounded by the last reason why coffee was bad (that coffee increased the instances of bedwetting in children). First of all, WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD GIVE THEIR FIVE-YEAR-OLD COFFEE! In my opinion, this is the very description of insanity! Aren’t children already a handful when at their lowest energy levels? Why on earth would you introduce a psychoactive agent to the mix?!
Needless to say, the coffee aficionado in me was outraged not only by the last statement (although scientifically proven) but also by the mere fact that the article’s author provided a very one-sided argument that only provided information relating to the disadvantages of drinking coffee! Why didn’t he go the extra mile and provide information regarding the health benefits of coffee? Better still, why didn’t the article offer advice on how to avoid these de-merits?
Of course (as usual), I took it upon myself to do my own scientific-based research into all these disadvantages and I am happy to announce that although each statement was true, the information the article left out easily explains why and when drinking coffee can be bad for your health. So, for you coffee haters out there, this article will clearly layout this information and truly show that coffee CAN BE GREAT FOR YOUR HEALTH WHEN IT IS DRANK IN THE RECOMMENDED AMOUNTS, BY AN APPROPRIATE AGE GROUP, AND AT THE RIGHT TIME!
Claims vs. Science: How Owning a Presto 02822 6 Cup Electric Percolator Stainless Steel Can Keep You Healthy (Benefits of Home-Brewed Joe)
Claim #1: Coffee is Toxic
Science-Based Information Negating this Claim: ONLY BAD QUALITY COFFEE IS TOXIC
According to various science-based studies on the negative effects of drinking coffee, coffee can be toxic BUT ONLY THE BAD QUALITY STUFF. In this regard, poor-grade coffee (by this I mean coffee that has been brewed from beans that were either overripe or close to decay) can be really bad for your health. Poor grade coffee grinds can contain numerous impurities which have been associated with the development of some unwanted symptoms such as general body malaise (discontent/ illness) and headaches.
That’s right folks! Some of the cheaply priced coffee grinds out there may be made out of coffee beans that had gone bad so BEWARE! Cheap is Expensive!
How can owning the Presto 02822 6 cup electric percolator stainless steel help you keep healthy? For starters, if you have gone ahead and made the choice to invest your hard-earned cash in buying this magnificent machine so that you can make your own home-brewed java, you are less likely to buy cheap quality coffee grinds for brewing purposes. Second and most importantly, the very fact that you are making your own brew lessens the chance of you buying a cup of java that has been brewed using bad-quality coffee grinds from your local coffee house!
Claim #2: Coffee can kill you
Science-Based Information Negating this Claim: ONLY IF YOU DRINK MORE THAN THE RECOMMENDED DAILY AMOUNT
After performing some in-depth study research, I found out that drinking too much coffee can actually kill you. SO, how much is too much? According to a recent study, you have to drink 80-100 cups of pure java (that’s a whole 23 liters) within a short amount of time.
Okay. Let’s take a minute to be serious folks!
Personally, I struggle with the simple concept of having to drink two liters of water a day to maintain a healthy body? How on earth does someone drink a whole 23 liter’s worth of coffee for goodness sake? I cannot comprehend this notion! That being said, I totally agree with the facts BUT don’t you think that this particular one seems completely irrelevant to you? It is to me!
Claim #3: Coffee causes Insomnia and restlessness
My findings on the matter: Of course coffee causes insomnia and restlessness WHEN DRANK IN EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS! After all, the main active ingredient in coffee, that is caffeine, works to stimulate the brain and body! That’s what it’s supposed to do! By excessive amounts, I am referring to more than the recommended daily amount of approximately 400 milligrams of caffeine (roughly 4 or 5 cups of ol’ Joe, depending on the brew’s strength and quality). This is particularly true for individuals who are sensitive to caffeine.
How can your Presto 02822 help you in this instance? Well, the brewing process requires you to think about measurements and also takes some time. As such, you have the time to think about how much coffee you are ingesting, in terms of strength and quality. In contrast, the simple process of placing an order and paying for your coffee takes away this thought process and you can easily find yourself buying more than the recommended 4/5 cups a day.
Claim #4: Coffee increases the instances of bedwetting for children aged 5-7
My research findings actually confirm this claim. However, I still do not understand the circumstances in which a normal parent in their right mind would introduce a psychoactive agent into their child’s body system? Why would one do that? I won’t discuss this issue any further as it seriously does not make any sense to me!
All in all, home-brewed coffee provides numerous health benefits including:
– lowering the risk of developing Type II diabetes
– the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease
– brightens up one’s mood (thus, helps one fight depression and lowers suicidal tendencies)
– reduces one’s risk of falling victim to a stroke
– helps you stay very alert and focused
